After several years managing it as both a stand-alone application, and one distributed thru Steam, the developers are dropping the stand-alone version. I understand the reasons: it was extra work, and Steam is a handy system for distributing software and – importantly – handling the digital-rights-management on it. I don’t play video games, so I’ve never used Steam before, so installing it has been a bit of a learning experience. I don’t want to dwell on it, but it dumps some cruft on your computer that runs all the time, and you might want to disable if you aren’t using the program much.
